A poor week and a really frustrating one to be honest. The NBL season has begun, but try finding an aussie book willing to take a bet on the game. Madbookie and Topsport were the only ones willing to take bets. It looks like following NBL as is will not be a possibility. The MLB is coming to an end and it seems every year the end of season results give back a lot of profit made early. The NHL season started and there have not been many bets. It seems botman is back at Sportpunter and he is taking all the Pinnacle prices milliseconds after the plays are released. Hopefully Jonno will put a stop to it very soon.
I have decided to test a new concept out. Even after all these years of betting you would think I’m not affected by the swings that come with placing large sums of money, but seeing a 5 figure loss on a regular occasion still hurts. The casino industry came up with a great way to divorce the mental link between money and betting by creating chips. These do not resemble money in any way and when you are betting a piece of plastic compared to cold hard cash, it is easier to bet more and worry less about losses. So how can I create that same disconnect with my own betting? By simply moving my spreadsheet from a dollar amount to a unit amount. I’ve decided to test this out for the next few months and have made 1 unit = $1,000. So now if I bet $500 it will be put as 0.5 in my stake column, a $6,000 bet is 6 units. This year I am currently up $21,760, but all I see is a 21.76 amount, and although I lost $11,000 this week, to me it was just 11 units. I’ve been meaning to do this for years and think it can have a great psychological impact on how I deal with losses.
Onto the weekly results. The NBL started horribly with a $8,530 loss and it hurts more knowing that I probably wont be betting on it again and I can never make that back. The MLB kept giving it’s profits back with another $6,900 loss this week and the only winning Sportpunter model was the NHL with a $1,500 profit. A shocking week for Sportpunter. Next week welcomes back the NFL which I’m looking forward to.
Dailyprofit now allows members to only follow single sports if they like and the NFL will be a good option from this week. There were about 5 bets the past week for members and they all lost. The Value and risk free stuff moves more into the Horse racing with the Spring carnival and there is a fortune to be made from all the offers.
The Soccer combo system continues to go amazing with the away sides winning again this weekend. It made another $6,900 and brings the total profit over the last few weeks to $40,300 at a 65% ROI. Who would have thought that Soccer would be my savior. My hope is that this is the season that blind backing aways results in huge profits. My own personal bets lost $3,900.
That’s it for a poor week, but I really don’t feel so bad about losing 11 units compared to $11,000. Yes they are both exactly the same in real terms, but our minds are funny things. With a 407 unit profit built over 5 years, an 11 unit drop is just 2.75%. The only issue now is converting them every Tuesday for the blog. But knowing the real numbers just once a week isn’t so bad.
